I decided that I was going to enter some bread and maybe a cake in the fair this year. I am trying to do something just for me every now and then. I also told the kids that they could draw a picture and enter it (there is a five and under art category). So I made some cookies this morning and baked up some whole wheat bread. The cookies (a kind I make ALL the time) turned out ugly but my bread, oh it was glorious. The loaf had risen perfectly, the top was buttered to shiny perfection and the texture was silky. I cut into one loaf to make sure it was as glorious as it seemed and left the other on the counter to cool before I packaged it up.
I laid the kids down for nap and planned on leaving as soon as they got up. I got Grace settled and went to wrap up the bread and package the pictures for transport. I walked into the kitchen and discovered the beautiful loaf of bread had the edge completely gnawed off. Upon further inspection I noticed half of the other loaf was MIA. After the kids swore on their very lives it wasn't them I looked down and saw a bloated and contented dog.
Anybody want a yellow lab? She's real good with children.
