Good Suggestion

A friend mentioned on her blog that she and her family had enjoyed exploring the Shoofly Oolites hiking trail. No one in our family had ever been. We'd finished with church. The sun was shining. We decided to have a family adventure.

The kids were not excited, but we packed them into the van anyway. The drive was boring and desolate, for the most part. As the GPS took us closer to the trailhead, all we saw was sagebrush and sky. It wasn't until we were right on top of the trailhead we saw the carved and shaped rocks. The complaining stopped as the kids hopped out to explore.

It's a bit of a hike to the top and then the view back down was amazing.

No children or dogs were harmed in the making of these pictures. Except maybe my heart. I think they all took ten years off my life.

This picture is titled "Humoring the Parental Unit".

More comfortable by one's self.

On the way down, the kids played "Only Step on Stone". Ethan got the best score by only stepping on dirt 11 times to cross the top of the mountain. It was a gorgeous rocky adventure.

I'm so glad we went. And I'm also so glad it wasn't summer. On the way back to the van, people were shedding clothes like snakes shed skin. A sunny February day was perfect.
