Sam can beat you in the bathtub dash and his swim cap is cooler than you can ever dream of.

Perfect Moments...
Life with busy parents and four kids rarely have perfect moments. People may have individual good moments but it seems like at least one person is unhappy, loud, teasing, or stressed at any given time.
We bought a propane fire pit. On a cold, rainy Saturday night we decided to make pie iron pizzas and s'mores. Then Ethan brought out his Kindle (that a kind, wise, wonderful Santa Claus brought him for Christmas after his great Kindle sadness of earlier) and started some music. What followed was a rare, perfect moment. People were dancing and people were eating; we were having the best backyard party ever. And, in that perfect moment, I realized how worth it it all is.

Balancing Act
I love this blog. I've been blogging for almost ten years here. This is the only record I've kept of my kids growing up (yes, I know, I'm a bad mom). I've joyfully announced pregnancies, first steps, and first reading skills. I've rejoiced in my kids' accomplishments and shared the laughter I've often had to hide. Things have changed a little, though. I can't write about the charming and funny things they do because they would die of shame. Their cheeks redden when I share their latest accomplishments. I have to be so careful of what I write because they can, and will read what I write.
Pictures are in the same boat. They plead with me to not share the funny and silly ones, and there just aren't as many pictures to post. My camera gets dusty and sad because I never pick it up. There aren't as many firsts to photograph, and often I find myself more worried about being present in the moment than capturing it all with a little lens. Not to mention photographing my child while they read a book, tie their shoe, or do a math problem lacks the visual appeal of the first time walking or riding a bike. My younger children will live the lament that I often have as a youngest child: "Where are all the pictures of me?"
I guess this is my long way of saying, "I'm still here...I'm just currently not sure what I am doing." I will stick around. Posts may be few and far between for the next little while. I've got to figure out how to balance my blog with my kids' right to privacy. I'm open to advice.

Christmas Day
Christmas day is always crazy but joyous. It also always starts at exactly 7:00. The kids aren't allowed to wake us up any earlier. Therefore at about 6:50 I heard the kids gather in the next room and count off every single minute until they could come wake us up.
We asked them to pose for a quick photo before going to the living room. Sam was not impressed. The older kids just smiled. I think they realized the quicker they humored us, the faster they got to their presents.
Unloading their stockings. Ethan got a Kindle from Santa and the girls got My Generation Dolls (American Girl knock-offs). Santa was well-loved at our house this year.
After presents at our house, we headed to Michael's parents' house for breakfast and more presents. Pictured above is Grandma and Grandpa will all their grandkids. Sorry it's blurry.
Later in the afternoon we headed to our church building and had a Christmas celebration with my family. The grandkids wrote and performed a play called Evil Santa. One of the best moments was when Sam got bored of waiting to say his line. He lay slumped across the table waiting for his cue. His tongue slowly poked out of the side of his mouth and test licked the table. Apparently he found it to his liking. He licked the table from top to bottom while Libby delivered her lines. At the end of the play the grandkids also dragged my mother (their grandmother) up onto the stage and had her do The Macarena. Christmas was awesome.
